Förra veckan försökte jag intervjua Michael Mayer, techno-dj, producent och grundare av bolaget Kompakt. Det gick inte så bra för skivbolaget tappade bort mina frågor.
Många har sagt till mig att de lyssnar på / dj:ar "minimal techno" under det senaste året men ingen har kunnat förklara vad det är. "Techno som känns i kroppen" var det någon som sa. Whut? Annars brukar definitionerna uteslutande gå ut på vad minimal techno inte är. Mayer är inne på samma spår:
"Many Kompakt releases can be tagged as "minimal" and our musical work
throughout the 90s was almost completely dedicated to strip down techno from
useless ballast. Some people even hold us responsible for inventing certain
minimal strokes. So yes, "minimal" has always been important to us and it's
not going to disappear. Personally, I think the term has been a bit overused
and abused. It sort of became a synonym for soulfree, boring and amateurish
techno. But what do you want to do about that?"
